Over the last couple of years, I’ve had lots of companies send me cases to review. At first it was interesting but then I noticed a trend. A lot of these cases look very similar. And it made me wonder, how much am I, as a potential consumer, getting ripped off? So I decided to buy a gaggle of similar cases off of AliExpress to see, well, if we’re getting ripped off. I spent a little over $100 dollars and ended up with 16 cases and 5 screen protectors. For $100 bucks.

I bought all these cases on November 27th and I’m still missing one. Most of them came towards the end of January which is 60 days, the last one come around the Middle of February. So I’m guessing they came on a boat.

Estimated street value of the 15 cases and 5 screen protectors? I’d would say around $300-400 bucks. So if you’re willing to wait 2 months for your case or screen protector to arrive, you should check out the selection on AliExpress! In general, the overall experience with cheap AliExpress cases has been MUCH better than all the cheap cases I bought off of Amazon in terms of quality and value.

In general, here’s what I’ve figured out about case manufacturers in general:

⁃ The overall quality of cases off of AliExpress was better than the super cheap cases off of Amazon
⁃ Honestly, it seemed like the cheap cases from Amazon were AliExpress rejects
⁃ There are definitely companies that buy off of AliExpress and repackage the products with a hefty markup.
⁃ A step above that are companies that actually have unique products

But let’s focus on the flipping companies that buy off AliExpress. My question is: Do they know that they’re just flipping cheap products from AliExpress? Or are they being fooled into thinking the products they are selling are unique?I think this point will really sink in when I show you cases that cost $50 dollars that are not different than $5 dollar cases from AliExpress.

Through this entire process, I have a slightly higher reputation of companies that make their own cases or have a lot of control over their products. Companies like Otterbox/LifeProof, Speck, Evolutive Labs and certain Spigen cases. Sure, the products cost more BUT at least they’re trying to be unique and innovative so technically, they should be rewarded for it.

From this entire process I've seen several case brands basically buying things off AliExpress, repackaging the product and calling it their own. The packaging is heavily marketed with words like "Innovative and Protective" when in reality, they don't actually know if the product is or not since they didn't produce it.

In the video, I show you a grey case I purchased for about $6 dollars and it is exactly the same as the black case that retails for about $30 dollars by a brand named Olixar. The products are exactly the same.

There is a red case that they sent me that I was able to find an exact copy of on AliExpress as well.

From my perspective, I don't think Olixar has done anything special to the product. They're just buying cheap cases and re-packaging them as their own.

There is another brand called LuxArmor that has cases that are thing PC cases with a soft-rubber coating. Now I'll be honest as I wasn't able to find an EXACT replica of their product but I do have cases that are extremely similar.

Sure the soft-rubber coating on the LuxArmor product is a stronger but that's the biggest difference. The worst thing is that they are asking between $30 to $50 USD for the product.

I did reach out to them but have gotten no replies regarding my question about the uniqueness of their product.

When it comes to spotting cheap cases, the one thing I look at is branding. Generally, if a company is proud of their products, they’d probably put their logo on it. That’s the first thing I look at now when I get sent cases. Has the company branded their products because the ones that don’t, are probably trying to make a quick buck.
